If you celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you had a nice holiday. But now it's time to get back to being a techno-nerd. :-) Speaking of which, check out this outrageous bill that the entertainment industry is trying to push on us...

"The SSSCA is a bill, pushed by the entertainment industry, to be proposed in Congress by Senators Fritz Hollings (D-SC) and Ted Stevens (R-Alaska). The acronym stands for Security Systems Standards and Certification Act. The law would force all new personal computers and digital home entertainment devices sold in the United States to have government-approved policeware built-in. This policeware would restrict your use of copyrighted material on these devices -- including music files and CD's, video clips, DVD's, e-books, and more." Click here to read more, and sign the petition against this bill.

Also, check out the announcements from Activision and GlobalSCAPE in News.
Happy Thanksgiving! I will be off for the next four days to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday here in the USA. But I won't leave you empty handed...

No matter what you do with your PC, you always want it to be optimized for the best performance possible, right? Well, first you have to find out what may be bogging it down. To do that, you might want to check out the PC Pitstop web site. Here's a description of the site: "PC Pitstop runs diagnostics on your PC to identify things that might help improve performance. The process is fully automated, private and safe. After the diagnostics run, we'll give you tips for improving all kinds of things. Best of all, the service is free!"

Of course, there are some things that you can identify manually as to whether or not they're affecting your PC performance. Some of the worst culprits are the programs that run in your Windows Startup folder. If you're not sure what I mean, then take a look at the Startup List web site for a detailed explanation.

Also, check out the new announcements from Nintendo, Sonic Foundry, SimpleTech, Midway, NewKidCo, Acclaim, and Activision in News.

See ya on Monday the 26th! :-)
Do you have Harry Potter fever? You may not be able to find tickets to the movie yet, but you can play Harry Potter on your PC. Check out the new Harry Potter games from Electronic Arts, which are available for the PC, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color, and PlayStation.

Also, CNET covers Comdex: "Pounding the pavement in Las Vegas, our editors spotted a promising IM client, real Bluetooth products, and new virus-slaying software. Plus, watch a video of the Xbox in action. Get complete coverage of tech's premier trade show right here."

And be sure to check out the new announcements from Vivastar, Multimedia 2000, Electronic Arts, and TechSmith in News.
If you're into gaming, then you've no doubt heard about the recent release of Microsoft's Xbox. Supposedly, it is twice as powerful as the PlayStation 2. This is according to Semiconductor Insights: "Compared to the PlayStation2, the Xbox houses a CPU (an Intel Pentium III) that runs at 600 MHz -- twice the speed of the Emotion Engine. Other notable features include 64 Mbytes of Samsung DDR SDRAM (4 x 128M devices), 6.4 GB/sec memory bandwidth, broadband internet access and a Seagate 10 Gbyte hard drive." Click here to read their entire press release.

Also, check out the new announcements from Microsoft, ArialPhone, Her Interactive, Fishtank Interactive, and Corel in News.
Your computer's hard drive is a major factor in determining how well your system performs. The hard drive type, specs, and interface all play a part in how fast your computer will run. Have you ever stopped to wonder how all of these aspects come into play? If so, then check out Storage Review's Hard Drive Reference. It will tell you almost everything you ever wanted to know about how hard drives work.

Also, check out the new announcements from Intel, Electronic Arts, Stardock, Sonic Solutions, Intuit, and Activision in News.
If you're wondering which version of Windows is the best, and which version you should be running, join the crowd. Many people are confused about whether or not they should upgrade to the latest/greatest, and which OS actually runs the best. If you're one of the many, then you might want to check out this comparison article published by The Tech Report, which compares the performance of WinXP vs. Win2000 vs. WinME.

Also, check out the recent announcements I've posted from Ricoh, Alera Technologies, AVerMedia, and TechSmith in News.
We all love cool electronic gadgets, right? You probably wouldn't be reading NewTechReview if you didn't. And if you're like me, you have to struggle to keep yourself from whipping out your wallet every time you pass the electronics section of your local shopping center. Well, be sure to hang on tight to that wallet of yours before you read CNET's Top 10 Must Have Gadgets article. They pick their 10 favorite, most desirable gadgets, from souped-up smart phones to superb DVD players. I thought you might like to see what they came up with.

Also, I've posted some announcements from Polaroid, Infogrames, and Activision in News.
Are you getting ready to purchase your next PC, but you're not sure which chip to go with, the Athlon XP or the Pentium 4? Well, then you need to check out this in-depth article over at Tom's Hardware Guide, which goes into great detail about comparisons between these CPUs.

And if you're wondering if your software will run on the new Windows XP OS, be sure to stop by the Windows XP Software Compatibility Site, where you can type in the name of an application and check its compatibility.

I've also posted some announcements from Visioneer, Activision, and THQ in News.

Windows XP has arrived. I should be getting my hands on a copy in the near future. In the meantime, have you decided whether or not you'll be upgrading? Well, to help you make your decision, I've rounded up a number of resources that I think you'll find useful. The first is a site called Cheaper Windows. This site is dedicated to searching the Net to find the cheapest Windows XP prices. Before you buy, you might want to check it out. Next, you'll want to take at look at CNET's Windows XP Superguide for all kinds of information, including a review of WinXP, tips and tricks, and more. Microsoft has also put together an official Windows XP site, although keep in mind that they probably won't be providing any unbiased opinions about their own product. :-) And finally, be sure to join Woody's Windows XP Watch for tips and tricks about the new OS by sending a blank e-mail to winxp@woodyswatch.com. All those resources should provide you with enough information to help you make your Windows XP purchasing decisions.

Also, I've got some announcements for you from Click2learn, AIST, Jasc Software, and Activision in News.
The battle between Mac and PC users has been a long one. Each side believes their operating system is the best. Of course, with all of the marketing 'mistakes' made by Microsoft recently, they certainly aren't making many new friends. But that really has nothing to do with the quality of their OS. So CNET has decided to publish a feature pitting the new Mac OS X against the new Windows XP. Click here to read their article and see which OS wins. I thought you'd get a kick out of it.

I've also got some new announcements for you from Hewlett-Packard, ADS Technologies, Que, and Legacy Interactive in News.
